What is Ashglow?

An async social bonfire for iOS, by Smart Kiitös Oy

Ashglow is an async social app for iOS, built by Smart Kiitös Oy as a quiet alternative to traditional social networks. It opens only between sunset and sunrise: write one short thought into the bonfire, and overnight you'll receive a few sparks — brief replies from anonymous strangers somewhere in the world. There are no profiles, no follower counts, no message threads, no notifications outside the night. Each spark is read once and lets go. The constraint is intentional: Ashglow is built for the kind of late-evening reflection that doesn't belong on a feed. Privacy is baked in — interactions are anonymous, no contacts are uploaded, and we collect nothing about who you are or who you talk to. The app is free, contains no third-party tracking SDKs, and has no in-app purchases. A small experiment in warmth, instead of reach.

How does Ashglow work?

Ashglow opens only between sunset and sunrise. A slow, contemplative space far from the noise of social media.

✍️

Write a spark

Compose a short thought — 140 characters max — and release it into the bonfire. Watch it drift away into the night.

Receive a spark

A stranger's thought drifts toward your fire. Read it, feel it. Add wood to warm them, or let it drift on.

🔥

Grow your fire

When others add wood to your sparks, your bonfire grows warmer. No numbers, no likes — just a gentle glow.

🌅

Dawn comes

At sunrise, the fire fades. See the night's summary — your most-warmed spark and a quiet moment before the day begins.

What makes Ashglow different?

Ashglow isn't social media. It's a solo experience with strangers. No dopamine loops, no infinite scroll — just honest thoughts by firelight.

🌙

Night-Only Access

The app opens at sunset and closes at sunrise. This isn't an oversight — it's the whole point. Night changes what we write.

👻

No Profiles

No usernames, no avatars, no followers. Every spark is anonymous. You're just a voice by the fire.

🪵

Add Wood

When a spark resonates, add wood to warm the stranger who wrote it. No comments, no replies — just a silent gesture of warmth.

🏺

Keep Sparks

Save up to 20 sparks that moved you. A small jar of other people's honest midnight thoughts.

📜

Embers

Browse your own past sparks. See their warmth glow — dimmer or brighter. Like reading old letters to the night.

🎲

No Algorithm

Sparks are delivered randomly — not ranked, not curated, not optimized for engagement. Just honest chance encounters by firelight.

Anonymous by design

Ashglow doesn't ask for your name, email, or phone number. No sign-up, no account. Your device is your only identity.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Ashglow.

What is Ashglow?
Ashglow is an anonymous async social app for iOS, available only between sunset and sunrise. You write one short thought into a bonfire each night, and receive a small number of sparks — brief, anonymous replies from strangers — by morning. No profiles, no threads, no public feed.
Why does Ashglow only work at night?
The night-only constraint is the product. It separates Ashglow from daytime social media, encourages quieter and more honest writing, and keeps the experience finite — there's a beginning and an end every day, and nothing to scroll forever.
Are conversations on Ashglow anonymous?
Yes. There are no usernames, profiles, follower lists, or persistent identities. Sparks arrive without identifying information, you cannot reply directly, and the app does not link writers and readers across nights.
How is Ashglow different from other social apps?
Ashglow has no feed, no likes, no followers, no DMs, and no notifications during the day. There is no growth loop and no public reach. Its only goal is a small moment of warmth before sleep — not engagement, not virality.
Does Ashglow track me or my contacts?
No. Ashglow contains no third-party tracking SDKs, asks for no contact list access, and stores no profile of who you are. The minimal data it needs to deliver sparks is anonymized and not linked to your identity.
